2026 Tournament Rules

Where

The tournament must be fished on the Richmond Horseshoe (Sauk River) Chain of Lakes. The tournament area is on the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes (Sauk River Chain of Lakes). The following Lakes are included- Horseshoe Lake, Krons Bay, East Lake, Mud Lake, Cedar Island Lake, Long Lake, Becker Lake, Koetter Lake, Knaus Lake, Bolfing Lake, Krays Lake, Park Lake, Northern Lake, Zumwalles Lake, North Browns, and the Sauk River between the lakes.

Tournament Map

To enter the tent, a lanyard is required. Lanyards will be provided with the purchase of a fishing ticket and can be picked up at the tent if you did not receive one. Kids 6 and under are free. Remember to wear your lanyard for the duration of the event. 

          Every fishing ticket purchased goes in the drawing for $1000.00.

🎣 Tournament Duration

  • Starts: Friday at 3:00 PM 
  • Ends: Saturday at 3:00 PM 
  • Format: 24-hour multi-day tournament — fish the entire time or just part of it 


🎟️ Ticket Sales

  • Available will be available online and onsite 
  • Sales close Saturday at 12:00 PM 


⚖️ Official Weigh-In Times

(Fish will ONLY be accepted during these hours)

  • Friday: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM 
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM 


⛔ Weigh-in closes promptly at 3:00 PM on Saturday — no exceptions


⚠️ Important Notes

  • Plan ahead to ensure your fish are weighed within official hours 
  • Late entries will not be accepted after weigh-in closes

🎟️ Ticket Requirements

  • A valid tournament ticket is required and must be on your person while participating 
  • Maximum of 5 tickets per participant 
  • No refunds on ticket purchases 


🐟 Eligible Fish

  • Only Channel Catfish qualify for tournament weigh-in 


🎣 Fishing Equipment

  • Fish houses are allowed 
  • All types and brands are welcome 


🕒 Tournament Timing

  • Start: Friday at 3:00 PM
    (Please respect the official start time — no early fishing) 
  • Tent & Ticket Sales Hours: 
    • Friday: Opens at 9:00 AM 
    • Saturday: Opens at 7:00 AM 
  • There will be no start signal (whistle, siren, or gun) due to the size of the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes 


⚖️ Fair Play & Sportsmanship

  • This tournament operates on the honor system 
  • Follow all local fishing laws and regulations 
  • Show respect to fellow anglers and the environment 


🌎 Cleanup & Environmental Responsibility

  • Please clean up your fishing area when finished 
  • Dispose of trash properly 
  • DNR regulations apply for littering or improper disposal

Weighing in Rules

 

🐟 Fish Ownership

  • All fish weighed in become property of the Richmond Firefighters Relief Association 
  • Fish may be cleaned, cooked, released, or properly disposed of 


👉 Participants may choose to have their fish released instead of turned in


🎟️ Weigh-In Requirements

  • A valid tournament ticket/lanyard is required to fish and to weigh in a fish 


🕒 Official Weigh-In Times

(Fish will ONLY be accepted during these hours)

  • Friday: 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM 
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM 


⛔ Important:

  • You must be in line before the 3:00 PM cutoff on Saturday to qualify 
  • No exceptions after weigh-in closes

🎉 Not Fishing to Win? No Problem!

Even if you don’t weigh in a fish, you can still enjoy the event, activities, and atmosphere.

🎟️ Ticket Requirements

  • You must have at least one valid ticket to fish during the tournament 
  • Ticket must be on your person before fishing and at weigh-in 
  • You must show your ticket upon request during tournament hours 


🎣 Ticket-to-Fish Rule

  • 1 Ticket = 1 Fish 
  • 2 Tickets = 2 Fish, etc. 
  • Maximum of 5 tickets / 5 fish per participant 

💡 Each fish entered requires its own ticket


💰 Bonus Drawing

  • Every fishing ticket purchased is automatically entered into a $1,000 drawing 


🕒 Ticket Sales

  • Available online and at the event tent 
  • Sales close Saturday at 12:00 PM 


🐟 Fish & Catch Rules


Eligible Fish

  • Only Channel Catfish are accepted 
  • Live fish only (no frozen fish) 
  • ❌ No speared catfish allowed 


📏 Slot Limits

  • Only 1 fish over 24 inches per person, per day within the slot limit 
  • Maximum of 5 channel catfish per person

  • Must present valid ticket with each fish at weigh-in 
  • All fish weighed in become property of the Richmond Firefighters Relief Association 
    • Fish may be cleaned, cooked, released, or disposed of 
    • Larger fish will be released when possible 


🌲 Regulations & Compliance

  • Must follow all Minnesota Fishing Regulations 
  • No transporting fish with water in live wells, pails, or tubs between lakes or on roads 


🌦️ Weather Policy

  • Tournament will proceed regardless of weather conditions 

🤝 Sportsmanship

  • Respect all participants 
  • Follow the honor system 
  • Fish fairly and responsibly 


🧹 Litter & Cleanup Rule

  • All trash must be properly contained 
  • ❄️ Nothing left on the ice

  • No refunds, returns, or exchanges on tickets

Tournament Prize Information

 

🎣 How It Works

  • Top 25 Places Win Prizes
    1st through 25th place will each receive a prize based on total catch weight. 
  • Bonus Placement Prizes Every 25th Spot
    Additional prizes will be awarded for:
    50th, 75th, 100th, 125th, 150th, and continuing every 25 places
    all the way up to 400th place. 
  • Smallest Fish Prize
    Not landing a giant? No problem. A special prize will be awarded for the smallest qualifying catfish.

  • Tournament placements are based on the heaviest fish weighed in 
  • Prizes and prize values are distributed throughout multiple placements 
  • Not just the top spots — winning opportunities are spread across the board

⚖️ Weigh-In Requirement

  • Prize eligibility applies only to tickets that are turned in with a weighed fish 
  • Tickets not turned in at weigh-in are not eligible for fishing prizes

  • You do not need to be present to win a fishing prize 
  • Additional prizes may be added up to and including tournament day
